Job Description

The Hannibal Central School District is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Occupational Therapist to join our team of professionals. The Occupational Therapist will work with students of varying abilities, helping them develop the skills necessary for successful participation in school activities. This role involves providing assessments, interventions, and individualized therapy plans that enhance the students' ability to function within the educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide occupational therapy services to students with a variety of disabilities, addressing motor, sensory, and cognitive needs.
  • Conduct assessments and develop individualized educational plans (IEPs) for students, in collaboration with teachers, parents, and other staff.
  • Develop and implement therapeutic interventions to support students' ability to participate in school-related tasks, including fine motor skills, self-care, and adaptive skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other support staff to ensure the integration of therapy strategies within the classroom.
  • Monitor and document student progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed to meet evolving needs.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings to ensure coordinated efforts in student development.
  • Provide consultation and training to school staff and parents regarding students' occupational therapy needs and strategies.
  • Stay current with best practices, research, and innovations in the field of pediatric occupational therapy.
Job Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Certification: Current New York State license or eligibility for licensure as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children in a school setting is preferred.
  • Ability to develop and implement individual therapy plans tailored to each student’s needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with students, parents, and school staff.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working with children with special needs, including autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and other related conditions.
  • Knowledge of sensory integration techniques and assistive technology tools.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a collaborative educational team.
  • Patience, creativity, and a passion for helping students achieve their full potential.
